1. A bit about counseling & Transpersonal Counseling...

I am a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and I subscribe to its code of ethics and continuous education philosophy.  The ACA defines counseling as:  "The application of mental health, psychological or human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioral or systematic intervention strategies, that address wellness, personal growth, or career development, as well as pathology."  For more information on the ACA, please visit their website www.counseling.org.  Transpersonal counseling speaks to a belief in the inherent good of the human spirit and one's journey on their life path of personal growth and development.  It posits that human beings can transend the personal or 'ego' self and continue to develop into an authentic self in a much broader context.  The individual self transcends a sense of being separate and develops a consciousness to its connection to a much broader state of being.  This continuous developmental process extends beyond self centeredness to form a sense of interconnectedness that reaches to all forms of life.  It is a state of inclusiveness, environmental consciousness, and an expansive world view that includes spirituality.  It is a psychological approach based on the theories and perspectives of William James, Carl Jung, Roberto Assagioli, Erik Erikson, Abraham Maslow and more current theorists such as John Wellwood, John Kabat-Zinn, Roger Walsh, Michael Washburn and others.
